The National Book Trust, India was established in 1957 by the Government of India to promote books and the habit of reading. The activities of the Trust can be divided under five broad heads. These are (i) publishing, (ii) promotion of books and reading, (iii) promotion of Indian books abroad, (iv) assistance to authors and publishers, and (v) promotion of children’s literature.
